GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Performs highly complex (senior-level) systems administration work. Work involves coordinating the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of THP systems. Installs, audits, and upgrades computer components and system software. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Install, maintain, administer, audit, and upgrade various environments managed and controlled by THP.

2. Interact with and assist service area directors, contract monitors, and vendors to implement, support and troubleshoot assigned systems.

3. Coordinate and schedule infrastructure maintenance and system migrations. Provide technical support as a high-level resource for problem resolution requests from internal and external customers.

4. Configure systems, applications, and reports to suit the needs of end user development and members of leadership, while complying with the established maintenance and support agreement.

5. Create custom workflows, post-functions, and service level agreements (SLAs). Coordinate, plan, schedule, and conduct training for internal and external customers on new and revised systems.

6. Research, define, and document business process requirements and the tools appropriate for application platforms, which includes but is not limited to SOPs, data dictionaries, and flow charts.

7. Determine operational, technical, and system requirements for the location, installation, operation, and maintenance of data processing, data communication, system software, and server hardware.

8. Analyze, troubleshoot, resolve system hardware, software, and networking issues; and provide status reports to management. Monitor the interface of systems, subsystems, and software application.

9. Develop, install, configure, maintain, monitor servers, operating systems, and applications using script and other program language. Manage federation, authentication, and access control systems.

10. Study existing information processing systems to evaluate effectiveness and recommend to management system technology solutions and enterprise-related hardware and software standards.

11. Compile and query data; quickly analyze multiple data sets using standard statistical tools, methods, and techniques; and interpret results to identify significant differences in data.

12. Prepare charts, diagrams, tables, and flowcharts to assist in problem analysis and submits solution recommendations.

13. May evaluate and recommend action on testing and certification of system software.

14. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.

15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

Education

- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related fields required.

Experience

- Minimum of three (3) years' experience performing in a technical role focusing on user account management or security configuration.

Licensure and/or Certification

- If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.

Regulatory Knowledge

- Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.

Technology

- In-depth knowledge of Windows OS, Familiarity with iOS and Android and experience with virtualization technology (e.g., VMware, Citrix, VirtualBox). Familiarity with IT monitoring tools to identify and troubleshoot system issues proactively. Ability to write scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) to automate tasks for system administration and auditing. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems (e.g., CAPPS, SharePoint) and be able to learn new software/systems.

- Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships, and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.

- Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance, and dissemination of information.

Safety

- Must be able to work in a safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.

Schedule and/or Remote/Telecommuting work

- Availability for emergency work is required. Telecommuting up to four (4) days per week.

State of Texas Benefits and Retirement Information:

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in the same salary group and state title as their current position will be transferred with no salary change.

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.

Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
