The Elementary Age Afterschool Program at Goodman Community Center (GCC) is a place for children from all backgrounds to play, socialize, learn, and grow. Teachers assist the classroom in organizing, supervising, and implementing afterschool programming that supports the goals of GGCC's elementary program. This is a posting for multiple positions. 

Qualifications   

• At least a CDA Credential or preferably an associate degree in Early Childhood/Child Development or equivalent, a baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood/Child Development, or a degree in a related field with course work specifically related to early childhood education.
• Experience working in a childcare setting.
• Commitment to GGCC's mission is to strengthen lives and secure futures.
• Familiarity with State of WI Childcare Licensing Rules and Regulations and City of Madison Accreditation Guidelines.
• Familiar with Conscious Discipline and Creative Curriculum.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and a willingness to drive a 15-passenger van. 
• Experience working with staff and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences and a dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the other teacher in the room in developing a welcoming environment, establishing lesson plans, assisting children in their homework completion, and encouraging literacy and math skill-building 
• Collaborate with the Metropolitan Madison School District and early childhood staff to ensure that shared space is respected and utilized effectively.
• Support children's social-emotional development using various approaches, including Positive Behavior Supports and Conscious Discipline. 
• Assist and participate in planning, organizing, and executing program orientations, open houses, center-wide events, and GCC-wide family engagement programming. 
• Provide a supportive environment where children are encouraged to participate in a program as individuals or as a group in classroom settings. 
• Maintained organization and rotation of materials and regularly sanitized and cleaned classroom spaces. 
• Maintain portfolios of assigned groups of children throughout the school year, including teacher communication, anecdotal notes, work samples, pictures, etc. 
• Use pre-program time to plan long—and short-range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, supporting developmentally appropriate practice and program goals. 
• Please communicate with school-day teachers to ensure the program meets the academic needs of children in your assigned classroom group, including homework completion. 
• Please perform other duties as required or assigned within this position's duties.
